Summer Intern - Structured Products, Financial Markets Group

In the heart of the financial center of Asia, I plunged headfirst into a flux of people and excitement all around. It was my first time in Hong Kong and I was more than ready to assimilate into the city of bankers and businessmen who thrived there.

My internship in the Structured Product Group at Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Limited allowed for me to experience life with a career in the financial markets as well as live through the fast-paced environment of a major global city. Fubon Bank is one of the top banking institutions in Taiwan, where it is based, and it's operations in Hong Kong were growing fast. During my time there, I was able to learn first-hand how the various financial derivatives in the markets worked. Working in a team of 6, I was able to support senior bankers on the launching of new structured products for the Bank.

In addition, I utilized Fubon's resources to perform research on the global markets and report my analysis to my VP. As I kept up with the development of events such as the U.S. Congress's management of its debt ceiling and the downgrade of the credit ratings of major European banks, I was able to see how Fubon would tailor its strategies accordingly to preserve the wealth of its clients and to maintain the health of the Bank. Altogether, my experience as a summer intern opened my eyes and gave me an experience which has led ultimately toward my interest in global financial markets and solidification of my pursuit of such a career.
