Summer Intern - Financial Audit

The summer after my freshman year at UCSD, I had the valuable opportunity to gain exposure early on to the financial industry in a major financial hub within Southeast Asia. Already having been familiar with the ins-and-outs of the city where I had visited many times throughout my life, working at KPMG in Taipei was definitely a fun and rewarding experience.

My time was split between working at the Taipei 101 tower, where KPMG in Taiwan was headquartered, and working at 3 other high tech firms in Taipei and Hsinchu City. As an intern in a professional Audit group of 6 members, my responsibilities involved sampling client accounts to prepare auditing spreadsheets and performing substantive tests of detail on client companies. The tests of detail were performed on site, which allowed our team more transparent communication with the client firm's accountants and management.

The auditing process is a lengthy and thorough technique which is carried out to ensure the quality and integrity of public companies. During my summer internship, I truly appreciate the experience I gained with financial statement analysis as well as working in the professional setting that KPMG offers. My time at KPMG allowed me a first glance at the financial world and had opened my eyes toward other possibilities in this realm of careers.
